In establishing ‘NortheRN' 30 research agencies attended a workshop sponsored by Service Network and supported by the MRS. Participants identified a number of key issues:
- Northern business invests less in professional research
- Diverse public Infrastructure and awareness of the contemporary profession
- Lower perceived value of expertise
- The challenge of securing diverse experience and retaining skills in the North
- Applying standards in marketing, research, and intelligence professions
- Improving vocational training opportunities in the North.
Our task is to ‘Make Research Count' across the north, and help:
- Provide access to broader experience
- Support ‘lone researchers'/ Niche operators
- Improve retention
- Improve awareness/ use of Northern skills
- Increase accessibility to national agenda's
- Share best practice
- Work with economic agenda's (Northern Way)
- Build collaborative community
- Increase competitiveness of Northern research
